WHAT THE HECK IS A 'FLEUR-DE-LIS'???
The English translation of
"fleur-de-lis" (sometimes
spelled "fleur-de-lys") is
"flower of the lily." This
symbol, depicting a
stylized lily or lotus flower,
has many meanings.
Due to its three "petals,"
the fleur-de-lis has also
been used to represent
the Holy Trinity.
Military units, including
divisions of the United
States Army, have used
the symbol's resemblance
to a spearhead to identify
martial power and
strength.
For Post 7609, The
Fleur-de-lis is a symbol of
Strength and Purity.
Obviously, a worthy symbol to represent our post. A post of Veterans of all era's, male and female, who meet to share the common bond that is forged in the greatest military in the world, The United States Military! Mission of the Veterans of Foreign Wars: To put it simply, the mission of the VFW is to "honor the dead by helping the living" through veterans' service, community service, national security and a strong national defense.
We at Fleur-de-lis Post 7609, are one of 9000 posts, worldwide, and with Auxiliaries, numbering 2.4 million members!
